As you are all aware, the Victorian state government has announced significant legislative changes to ride sharing, including the current licencing regime. As a result the Victorian government has also set up a $75 million Fairness Fund; with $50 million to be allocated to those that are experiencing financial distress as a result of the reforms.

In order to assist taxi licence holders with the above changes, WEstjustice (Western Community Legal Centre Inc.) been funded to provide free advice and assistance to eligible taxi licence holders with regard to their application to the Fairness Fund. 

Who we are?

WEstjustice is an independent not-for-profit organisation that provides free and confidential legal advice to people living in Melbourne’s western suburbs.

Our organisation also operates a Taxi Legal Service and has done so for the last 5 years. We provide a specialist legal clinic for taxi drivers which comprises of advice, case work and advocacy in the areas of motor vehicle accidents, insurance/indemnity matters, licensing accreditation and debt /financial hardship.  In particular the clinic has specialised in the area of insurance/indemnity matters.

Taxi Fairness Fund? How can we help ?

If you are a licence holder who experiencing financial hardship as a result of the legislative changes we encourage you to contact our office on (03) 9749 7720 or by way of email taxi@westjustice.org.au  to discuss your potential application to the Fund. 

When you initially contact our office we will place you on a waiting list. A member of our staff will then contact you to arrange a time for your initial appointment.

During your initial appointment with our office we will:

  1. Discuss your current circumstances and financial position; and
  2. Determine whether you are eligible to apply to the Hardship Fund

If you are eligible to apply, we may schedule further appointment/s with you to assist you to complete the application form.
