WAT licensing update - no change

It was without warning late last week that the TSC put information on their website making new annual WAT licences available for only $538.40. The VTA vigorously represented the severe impact of this decision and are pleased to report that we have received advice today that the Government have stepped back from this decision. There will be no short-term changes to WAT licensing.

It was without warning late last week that the TSC put information on their website to make new annual WAT licences available for only $538.40 (which represents administrative component only).

There was no official communication with the industry or affected licence holders about the decision.

Since then we have had calls, respresntations and emails from many holders of perpetual WAT licences who have been drastically affected by this decision.  We understand it caused great distress and would result in many facing immediate financial hardship.

The VTA vigorously represented the severe impact of this decision and are pleased to report that we have received advice today that the Government have stepped back from this decision.  There will be no short-term changes to WAT licensing.

Anyone wishing to take up a new annual WAT licence will need to pay the full rate of over $19,000 per annum (exact amount to be confirmed).  This should result in operators maintaining existing assignment agreements.

We understand the TSC have already accepted and begun processing applications for licences at the lower rate.  They are now working through how to deal with these applicants but we have been told no new WAT plates will be released at the lower rate.

Thanks to all who brought this situation to our attention.

We will circulate formal advice from the TSC once available.
