This morning, an accident between a car and truck resulted in the death of the driver of a vehicle on the Western Highway, Ballan at around 8am this morning. Public reports have not named the deceased but the crash has been covered in The Age, Herald Sun and Courier. It has been reported the driver and passenger of the truck involved are injured but in a stable condition.
The VTA has been informed by the relevant network, from his family, that the man who died as a result of this accident was Stan Gliszczynski, Operator and long-time manager of Taxis of Portland.
Reports suggest the circumstances are being investigated by Police and the taxi industry will offer whatever help possible to facilitate these investigations. Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
The VTA would like to offer our condolences on behalf of the Victorian taxi industry to Stan’s family, friends and long term colleagues.
Stan contributed a great deal to the taxi industry over many years, not just in his capacity as an operator and regional network manager but through his dedicated advocacy for regional taxi businesses including in his capacity as a VTA Councilor. The VTA will look for opportunities to pay tribute to this contribution over the coming days and weeks.
We'll continue to provide the industry with updates as more information becomes available.
