In its response to the Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS) regarding the new Fare Device Specification, the VTA have made it clear that until all competitors in the market are playing by the same rules it is unable to support initiatives such as this.

Such operating conditions simply impose higher, and unjustified, costs upon the legitimate sector of the market, giving those that chose not to comply an unfair and unreasonable commercial advantage. While the VTA recognise the TSC were required to undertake this work it will be calling on the Government to suspend the implementation of such initiatives until the legal anomalies are addressed.
