Just over a week ago, “Uber announced a global partnership with UN Women aimed at hiring 1 million women as drivers by 2020.” Only days later the UN has not only called off the initiative but claims there never was a formal partnership in place.  A spokeswoman for UN Women also spoke to FORBES explaining that “Uber provided sponsorship for a recent UN Women event celebrating women’s rights, but that no further partnership is planned.

There was an explosion of criticism for the partnership “due to Uber’s long and ugly track record of disregarding safety concerns from female riders and drivers.”

UN Women executive director said recently, “ I also want to assure you that UN Women will not accept the offer to collaborate on job creation with Uber.”
