This week, the Taxi Services Commission gazetted their final decisions on the establishment of the new taxi licence zones which come in to effect on 30 June 2014. A revised map is available on the TSC website here.
The full Government Gazette regarding licence zones is available here. This gazette contained an error at 1(c)(ii) which incorrectly suggested that regional zoned taxis could do pre-booked work wholly within the urban zone. This has been corrected in this subsequent gazette.
The zones largely reflect those proposed in the TSC's Regulatory Impact Statement, with two three key exceptions
- Swan Hill and Horsham moved from the country to regional zone
- The existing metropolitan zone boundary maintained on Northern and Western borders with Sunbury and Melton areas (rather than shifted further North and West as proposed)
- The Westernport side of the Mornington Peninsula, proposed to be allocated to the regional zone, will be included in the urban zone with the Port Phillip side of the peninsula.

Where can I work?
There are currently over 100 taxi licence zones. From 1 July there will be four. It is important to understand that taxis licensed to a particular zone will be able to operate anywhere within that zone from 1 July.
The table below shows what kinds of work taxis from different zones can do.
