There
are six steps in becoming an accredited taxi-cab driver:

Six
Easy Steps To Becoming a Taxi-Cab Driver
Participants
who wish to drive in the metropolitan area are required to
complete the following steps to obtain a Driver's Accreditation.
Step
One - Eligibility
The applicant
must:
- Hold
an Australian Drivers’ Licence for 12 months
- Produce
a medical report showing you are fit and proper to drive
a commercial vehicle
- Hold
a full Victorian Drivers’ Licence
- Have
no serious criminal and/or traffic record
Step
Two - Application
Before admission to a training course,
all applicants are required to obtain, complete and lodge
the following application forms:

Three - Submitting Applications
The completed
forms, including Medical Report and National Police Certificate,
PLUS 2 passport-sized photographs must be presented in person
to the Victorian Taxi
Directorate (VTD), Level 6, 14-20 Blackwood Street, North
Melbourne Phone 9320 4376.
Upon successful
application, the VTD will issue you with a Taxi Driver Skills
Passport which permits you to partake in training to become
a taxi driver.
Step
Four - Taxi Driver English Assessment
This assessment must be completed successfully as a pre-requisite
for entry into the Course in Taxi Driving.
Step
Five - Course in Taxi Driving
(21848VIC)
115 nominal
hours (100% attendance is required) – courses are conducted
at all TITV training venues. The Units include:
- Unit
1 – TDTC997B Drive Taxicab
- Unit
2 – VBPAU166 Complete orientation to the taxi industry
- Unit
3 – VBPAU167 Comply with safety and security procedures
- Unit
4 – VBPAU168 Use communication systems in taxicab
- Unit
5 – VBPAU169 Carry out financial transactions and
maintain records
- Unit
6 – TDTH401A Identify major roads, services and attractions
- Unit
7 – VBPAU170 Provide customer service
Step
Six - Taxi Driver Accreditation Issued - VTD
Upon successful
completion of the Course in Taxi Driving, the applicant can
obtain their Taxi Driver Accreditation in person from the
VTD.
Recognition
of prior learning
TITV recognises and promotes that prior learning is a valid
form of assessment and encourages applicants that have attained
prior work, education and life experiences that match the
assessment criteria and learning outcomes of the Course in
Taxi Driving to apply for same.

Outer
Suburban and Regional Depots
These depots often conduct induction driver training programs.
The delivery and assessment structure varies from the Course
In Taxi Driving, however applicants are guided through all
operational issues relating to taxi-cab driving in the area in
which they propose to work.
All applicants
must fulfill all regulatory requirements. |
