Victorian Taxi Association

Operators

Taxi operators run taxi-cabs on taxi licences that are either obtained through transfer or assignment or a combination of both.

Taxi-cab operators must be accredited by the Department of Transport. Once granted, the accreditation lasts for a period of 5 years. During this time the operator must work to the minimum business and service standards set by and administered by the Department of Transport.

Taxi-cab operators undertake the following:

  1. Maintain the taxi-cab, ensuring that it is roadworthy at all times.
  2. Comply with all legislation relating to the operator's business.
  3. Ensure all fitted equipment and devices are in sound working order.
  4. Ensure each driver has a bailment agreement and understands that bailment agreement.
  5. If they the operator has a licence assigned to them, they must meet the conditions of that licence.
  6. Provide WorkCover for bailee drivers
  7. Ensure each of their taxi-cabs are affiliated with a Primary Network Service Provider.
