Currently, all new taxi market entrants who wish to own or operate a taxi licence in the Metropolitan taxi zone are required to complete the Course in taxi Care - Taxi Operator, as one small part of the accreditation process (The VTA are the sole accredited provider of this course).

 However, completing this course with a view to purchasing one of the new 530 licences is unnecessary; as the VTD will not require that the applicant has completed the course prior to lodging any application. It is also likely to be the case that many of the successful applicants will NOT need to do the course at all.
