Taxi, The Inside Story
A new book of stories from behind the wheel
Taxi, The Inside Story is a new book that reveals the unique and
untold stories of Victoria's taxi drivers. It captures the
remarkable journeys each driver goes on when they step behind the
wheel. Taxi drivers from across Victoria have been interviewed in
the book and their stories are engaging and passionately told.
Taxi, The Inside Story is the centrepiece of an awareness
raising campaign called Taxi Project. Taxi Project aims,
through the sale of the book [and an exhibition scheduled for March
2010], to build the pride of taxi drivers, raise public perception
regarding the positive contribution drivers make to society and
raise money for Very Special Kids. Taxi Project breaks down
stereotypes and promotes a positive dialogue between drivers and
passengers.
Why Taxi Project? Why now? Rachael Guthridge (Monument
Marketing) hailed a taxi in July 2008. She found herself chatting
to a driver and he told her about his life. 'He said his life was
great. I asked whether anything particularly good had happened. He
said "No, my life is great because that is my choice." I was moved
by who this taxi driver was and what he must go through. I realised
that not many passengers actually know what drivers must endure
behind the wheel. I made up my mind there and then to create Taxi
Project, to let everyone see what I was seeing.
The Hon. Jeff Kennett AC launched the book on Thursday 5
November at BMW Edge (Federation Square) and said, 'Taxi, The
Inside Story will warm the cockles of your heart with the personal
stories of drivers who deliver this important public service.'
$6.00 from every book sold is being donated to Very Special Kids
- a charity that improves the quality of life for families of
children with life-threatening illnesses.
Taxi, The Inside Story is a great read and a wonderful companion to
have in the taxi for passengers to read the 'other side of the
story.'
The Victorian Taxi Association is a proud Project Supporter.
Taxi, The Inside Story (RRP $19.95) is available at all good
