The VTD is a branch of the Public Transport Division of the Department of Transport.
The VTD is responsible for implementing the State Government's policy directions for the taxi-cab industry and regulation of the industry. It liaises with the industry and monitors the standards of operators and drivers to ensure they meet community and legal expectations.
The VTD administers the taxi-cab industry in accordance with State laws, in particular the: • Transport Act 1983 • Road Safety Act 1986 • Transport (Taxi Cabs) Regulations 2005
