VTA ASSISTANCE FOR BUSHFIRE VICTIMS
Feb 2009

The Victorian Taxi Association (VTA) announced today that it has
decided to contribute the following assistance for people in fire
affected areas across Victoria.
For the next two weeks the VTA will pay taxi fares, for people
in affected areas, for travel to and from their property to the
nearest major town (including school trips) who have:
- Lost their house or their house has been severely damaged;
- Lost Immediate family or have immediate family member
hospitalized; or
- Lost their only family vehicle
In addition to transporting these people, the VTA will pay the
taxi fare for the local delivery of essential goods to these
people: such as food, water, medication, bedding and other items to
sustain.
In addition, the VTA will pay the fare for the transporting of
essential goods to local rest and assembly areas for fire fighters,
and for the transport of local emergency service workers, local
support groups, medical services, volunteer support and trauma
counsellors to and from public assembly areas.
These taxi services will be provided by VTA members across the
State in affected areas.
For operational information please contact Peter Garbellini at
the VTA on 9676 2635, (M) 0417 733 100, or (E) ops@victaxi.com.au.
The VTA has advised affected taxi companies who decide to
participate to work closely with their Local Government support
services and other local support groups such as CFA, Police,
Ambulance, hospital, Red Cross and Salvation Army.
